Image compression with semidiscrete matrix decompositions (SDD)

This visualization shows how SDD performs in regards of image compression. Choose one of the pictures and use the slider to change the number of considered layers. The approximate image size will update automatically as well as the information about the least significant layer's weight. These weights can theoretically lie between 0 and 255, representing RGB values. On a desktop computer, you can click the slider once and then use the arrow keys to navigate through layers. Changing images may take a few seconds since the matrices are being constructed and loaded into your RAM. The right/bottom picture displays the image using SDD compression, and the left/top is the original. The code for this page can be found in this repository.
